DC Weekend

Hello my avid readers.
This weekend Jim K and I have come up to DC to visit the Kimbroughs! Yesterday's evening was filled with an awesome mexican restaurant (of course - mexican) and fabulous bars. DC rocks. This morning was filled with bacon and water. Sarah has fun friends.

We are scheduled to run a 1/2 marathon tomorrow. It's the Potomac River Run! It's time to pick up our race packets. Why oh why do we think that running is fun? Will tell you about it later, when I'm confined to a chair since my legs will hurt so much.

Sorry - this post was boring. I'll have good pictures to post later.

Success!!

Mornin'! (even though it's 8pm)
We officially have internet at our new place on Morningside! This is a test. Looks like all is a go.
Funny thing - first utility I set up was internet. Actually it's not funny. Perhaps it's on the borderline of sad. But let's not go there, lets be excited that internet is available at Morningside! We've just been painting so far. Dont' move in for a few more weeks. But I've been clocking some distances. 0.5 miles to Smith's Old Bar. 0.7 miles to Fat Matts. 1.0 miles to Botanical Gardens. More blogs on exact distances to come.

May 8th is Mother's Day

Enstead of chocolates or plants this year, get your jean shorts out and sing her this Song. Treat your mom right. And don't disrespect moms everywhere by telling someone "your momma is so ugly, her ears stick out to get away from her face" because...well...watch Mr. T tell you why you shouldn't do that.
You need Media Player to watch that video. When you click on this link, then click on "Mr T - treat your mother right". You might want to turn the volume up so you can get as much rythm out of it as Mr. T does.

Like Mr. T? http://www.mrtvseverything.com/
See Mr. T take on everything.

just testing some things

Oh Idaho.

Heard this on the radio this morning, and though I have not yet seen this movie in it's entirety, I know that most people who view my blog are avid fans...so this is for you guys.

Legislators in Idaho have drawn up a bill to commend Napolean Dynamite. They commend the film's creators and the city of Preson, where "all the llama-feeding, tetherball-slapping action happened". Resolution 29 lists over 20 ways to regonize the film. Read them all at one of the links below, but good ones include statements such as:
  • WHEREAS, tater tots figure prominently in this film thus promoting Idaho's most famous export;
  • WHEREAS, Napoleon's tetherball dexterity emphasizes the importance of physical education in Idaho public schools;
  • WHEREAS, Uncle Rico's football skills are a testament to Idaho athletics;
  • WHEREAS, the friendship between Napoleon and Pedro has furthered 17 multiethnic relationships;
  • WHEREAS, Napoleon's artistic rendition of Trisha is an example of the importance of the visual arts in K-12 education;

If you don't believe me go HERE and HERE to find out more...GOSH!

The Office...Again

Check out nbc's website for my favorite show: http://www.nbc.com/nbc/The_Office/
It's fun.

So since we went to a much better trivia bar last night (Stool Pigeons) we missed "The Office". It's a big price to pay, but the trivia switch was so worth it. Way to go Melissa and Danny! Sorry we didn't go sooner. So, someone has to get Tivo...pronto, so we won't miss "The Office" again, but for now I will try to find out when the episode will be replayed. You'd think I'd know since I have access to lots of programming...but I wanted to post this enstead of look like I was doing work. Play with that website. Learn more about the "Assistant to the Regional Manager"...or is it the "Assistant Regional Manager". Matte or Glossy...the questions go on and on.

flava

I'm not usually into these things, but I thought I needed some flaver on my blog. Not just posts about Crew. Some of these sound ridculous, some are just plain funny...and some may come in handy for trivia.
  • Mosquito repellents don't repel. They hide you. The spray blocks the mosquito's sensors so they don't know you're there.
  • Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes.
  • The king of hearts is the only king without a moustache.
  • Venus is the only planet that rotates clockwise.
  • Apples, not caffeine, are more efficient at waking you up in the morning.
  • Most dust particles in your house are made from dead skin.
  • It's physically impossible for you to lick your elbow.
  • It is possible to lead a cow upstairs...but not downstairs.
  • Turtles can breathe through their butts.
  • On average, 100 people choke to death on ballpoint pens every year.
  • All polar bears are left-handed.

Women's Novice 8 Semi Final

Sira2, originally uploaded by ARichards.

Go Tech! What a great weekend at SIRA's. 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze for Tech. 2 other boats were in the finals too. This pic is the novice womens 8 semi final. Here, they finished 3rd after GA and Grand Valley, but they made it to the finals. With the 5th fastest time going into finals they got third!! It was SUCH a good race. They missed 2nd by about 1 second, and the won third by about a second. Coach Cassi and I got to follow most of the way on our bikes. It was really exciting. We both had to change our underwear after the race. These girls rock. They responded SO well.

So we had our fun, but now it's back to training again. Many teams at Vails will be out for blood I'm sure.

Pair Power

Here is bow pair of the 8 - trading their rubix cube skills with one another. Well, as you can see - Tech hasn't changed that much!

Sneaky picture taking

Congrats to the whole GT team. Results can be found at the official GT Crew webpage.

In this picture, each one of those rowers has allready coordinated grabbing coach cassi and coach ree after this picture is taken to throw them in the water. They were clever little devils. I have to hand it to them - I never saw that one coming. They got us good. That water was cold.

E. Morningside

Yes, the rumors are true. Shelly Holdren and I are starting a DDR team. We will train for many hours and travel at great lengths to competitive tournaments. To practice as much as possible we have signed a lease together for May 1. E. Morningside Dr is the next place we live that can be named after a street. We can meet at "morningside" before going to Screen-on-the-Green, etc. Though I just tried to google Screen-on -the-Green and couldn't find any 2005 information. Only 2004 stuff was up there. HHHmmm.... Turner you better not be screwing us here. We picked this location with watching and singing along to "To the Sound of Music" with thousands of other people in mind.

Pheonix

Hi Kids! Time for movie review by Ree. I review two ways. Good or Bad. I don't give anything other than that.

I saw "Flight of the Pheonix" last night. A movie I previously thought "would suck" b.c. the previews made it look like the whole movie was going to take place in the same scene . I was brought back to "Phone Booth" where basically you stared at a phone booth for 2 hours and got bored. Well, this movie still took place in the same scene (the desert), however, I actually liked the movie. I was going to set up Flicker on my mac and blog during the movie, but ended up giving it my undivided attention instead. "Flight of the Pheonix": Good. It took me away from blogging. Impressive.

"Alfie": Bad. Jude Law is still hot. But hot, cocky and stupid is no way to play a role Jude.

"Sideways": Bad. That movie could've been 15 minutes. That's all I'm going to say.

Ok, enought negativity.

Crew

Well since this blog is about me then you get to know all about my life. And, for the fifth spring not in a row, crew is my life right now. Sira's are in about a week. Vails, just a month away. Coaching is great. You get to enjoy the sport through 24 other people. We have the best girls and coaching them is so fun. They had their 2k test today and we have so many PR's on the team right now. It's very exciting. There are pictures from Spring Break up on www.gtcrew.com. There is a great collection of pictures from "the wall" in Panama City on there as well. You alumni should go check it out and see your artwork from 1994 through 2005.

Updates

Hello,
Well anyone who checks this knows I'm busy. So sorry no updates everyday, but you should check everyday none-the-less. four things:

1) I've got my own website up and running. www.ajrichards.com. Basically I'm using it to post pictures to share with everyone. Right now we've got Sarah T's wedding and St. Patricks Day pictures up there. Beware of the St. Patty's day pics.
2) If you want a host server go to http://www.dreamhost.com/rewards.cgi?arichards. You get a good server and I get a reward! They're pretty cheap and offer month-to-month packages. I don't think you have to buy a year like other servers.
3) Shelly and I are in the process of finding a new place to call home. We are looking at aparments/duplex/houses for rent in the midtown area. So if you know of one let us know and look forward to a "Stock-Our-Bar" party in May or April. We will be taking applications for good-looking strong men to help us move. A pdf file with that application will be posted in a few days.
4) The "Last Hurrah" party at Warfield St. will be April 23rd. Clear out your calendars folks...and don't tell mom - oh wait...she checks this blog. Well don't worry mom, think of it as a huge "showing". I'll send out an evite soon and will link it here too. We'll provide the keg, but you might have to bring you own cup.

So now you are somewhat updated. I'll try to post some cute pictures or a witty comment today. I see I need to figure out how to set up archives so I can archive the month of May. How exciting!

Oakridge

First off, everybody's blog looks great. Cassi, great links (I didn't know Jodi was engaged). Heidi / Shelly - keep up the contests. Aunt Heidi, you should be very proud.

Anyways, I'm off to Oakridge tonight as the team is competing at the John Hunter Regatta tomorrow. It'll be a very long, but very fun day. Cassi, Ethan and I get to coach a really great squad this year. I actually have pictures of them at my work now. They did great at Lake Lenior (:-) Sprints last weekend so we are all excitied for this weekend - though JHR is mostly fleets and not heat and finals. Boo. Maybe Cassi will put the pictures from Spring Break on gtcrew.com sometime. Huh Cassi?

Row 2K news

Some great articles today. This one is one of my favorites:
http://www.row2k.com/news/news.cfm?ID=17056
Last year, I was completely outraged about the fact that the Head of the Charles was to install height restrictions for all Lightweight events - according to row2k on April 1, 2004. I admit, they got me. They got me good. But not after I had e-mailed like 3 coaches and a bunch of friends complaining how unfair this was and that they are healthy lightweights out there that are over 5'6" (which is what the height restriction was going to be). Boy was I a sucker.

Happy Belated Birday Shelly! She got a Blender and a spider man mirror. Rock-on.
